Even worse, they game only displayed the original default regions of Maxisland, NYC, Berlin, etc. On both times after being able to use the launcher, the mouse and ingame icons (such as if i clicked residential, disasters, etc.) were on a negative or gray-scale color. However, I currently face another problem and I am unaware if this has been addressed elsewhere or not on this forum, so I will ask:
SIMCITY 4 UPDATE UPDATE
I then tried your suggestion BigDuse and this worked as well, guaranteeing that I could use the game with the update at hand. However, the laptop continued to insist about reinstalling the update and eventually did it on its own (most likely my own fault for having it on automatic updates). I uninstalled it from my laptop and, after resetting the computer, the launcher was able to function.
SIMCITY 4 UPDATE WINDOWS
For anyone unaware, the specific windows update was KB3086255. I then tried the suggestion that compdude787 mentioned.

Eventually this was not enough and then I came across the issue about the Windows update. I had gone into the properties and selected for myself to use administrator access, despite being able to in the first place. I originally was greeted with a "error: administrative privileges may be required" message when I tried to launch the shortcut. I have a normal SC4 disc game that I've had for at least 6-7 years that had always worked fine until the past two weeks. I would like to thank you for having posted this issue lately. I'm sorry for how inelegant of a solution this is to anyone with actual programming experience, so if anyone with more scripting knowledge than I wants to make it better, by all means please do! Click OK and finally click Apply.Īfter following those steps, you should now be able to run Sim City 4 using your normal shortcut as though nothing ever happened! button under the Shortcut tab and mark the check-box to Run as Administrator. cmd file you just created.įinally, click the Advanced. Open up your Sim City 4 shortcut Properties again, and replace the Target: entry (the one we copied before) with the path to the. Now, save this file, take note of the path where it's saved, and close Notepad. Make sure you have the empty set of quotations and also be sure that you only have one set of quotations around the SimCity 4.exe target.
SIMCITY 4 UPDATE CODE
Next, paste what you just copied from the shortcut (overwriting that would be the bold text in the code above). In Notepad, highlight everything that I have bolded in the example code above. The first set of quotations can be left empty (do not delete these!), the /wait simply pauses completion of the script until Sim City 4 is running, and the second set of quotations is what we're about to change. Go back to Notepad and look at the line following start. Right click, go to Properties and copy the entire contents of the Target: box (this should include the SimCity 4.exe location and any startup parameters that you have, like -CPUCount:1 in my example). Now, minimize Notepad and navigate to your current SimCity 4 shortcut. Start "" /wait "D:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -CPUCount:1 -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1366x768x32 -IgnoreMissingModelDataBugs:on Next, paste the following code into your new OFF cmd and also make sure to change Save as type: to "All Files". Name it whatever you want, but be sure to give it the file extension. The steps are as follows:įirst, open Notepad and immediately save the file. Once it's set up you'll be back to Sim City 4 in no time, all while retaining the necessary security updates and without having to manually open a command prompt. (There's probably a more efficient way to do this, but this method does work).

SIMCITY 4 UPDATE DRIVER
For any non-Windows 10 users interested in running their CD copy of Sim City 4 without having to delete the new update, I wrote a simple script that automatically turns on the necessary driver long enough to start the game before turning it back off.
